Who We Are
The Friends of Little Compton Wellness Center, Inc. (“LCWC”) owns and operates the health services center located at 115 East Main Road, Little Compton - named in honor of Nancy Brayton Osborn. The LCWC supports a wide range of healthy aging services within Little Compton and its surrounding communities. Activities are directed by a part-time Program Director and the trustees and officers of LCWC, who volunteer their time and resources. LCWC is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization eligible for tax-deductible contributions and grants from the community it serves.

Our Mission
To Promote Healthy Aging Within Our Community Through Affordable Programs And Services

Our History
LCWC began nearly a century ago as an organized response to the U.S. flu epidemic of 1918 – 1919. Over the years, it transitioned into the Little Compton Nursing Association, providing daily visiting nursing and home hospice services to the town of Little Compton and its surrounding communities. In 1984, we moved into the newly built Nancy Brayton Osborn Center and added adult day services to our program roster. In 2011, we expanded our service charter to include a broader set of health related programs for the community, changing our name to the Little Compton Wellness Center.

Our Programs
Cornerstone Adult Day Services is the core of our available service programs at the LCWC, providing daily professional mental and physical support and education to a growing group of aging community members. Cornerstone, a member of the Saint Elizabeth Community, is a Rhode Island agency dedicated to the health needs of the elderly, adults with disabilities, and persons with dementia.

LCWC also hosts important programs, including: a “Well Adult Clinic” through the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport & Bristol Counties with Community Clinic Manager Nan Haffenreffer, and weekly behavioral health counseling through the Newport County Community Mental Health Center and Calyn Acebes. We offer a regular Podiatry Clinic with Dr. Alan Lechan, and a Well Child Clinic with Dr. Judith Shaw. LCWC also administers vaccination and flu shot programs and sponsors a number of important, regularly scheduled health-related programs and professional services such as Adaptive Exercise; Reflexology; Massage Therapy; and Yoga.

In addition, LCWC sponsors a number of periodic educational programs addressing health-related issues. This fall, in coordination with Cornerstone, we are offering an four-week seminar series, “Keys to Healthy Aging: Keeping Our Minds and Bodies Strong” and plan to build on its important teachings. Other programs include Memory Management; Stress: the good, the bad, the ugly facts; Ayurvenda for Women; Men's Health; Diabetes: a basic understanding;  Medicare qualification; and SHIP (Senior Health Insurance Program) Counseling.

Finally, LCWC hosts the Little Compton Food Bank, providing supplemental food and household supplies to local community members in need.

Our Needs
The Nancy Brayton Osborn Center and all of our health-related programming are supported by tax-deductible contributions and grants from members of the greater Little Compton community.
